Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy - Biography

Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy was a great Indian scientist. He was born in 1861 in Khulna, which is now in Bangladesh. In his childhood, he studied in a village school. Later, he went to Hare School and Albert School. He passed the Entrance Exam in 1879 and studied F.A. at Metropolitan College.
In 1882, he got the Gilchrist Scholarship and went to London. He studied at Edinburgh University, where he completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees. After coming back to India, he became a professor at Presidency College.
In 1896, he was the first person to prepare Mercurous Nitrite in a laboratory in India. He started a company named Bengal Chemicals in 1901. Later, he joined Science College as a Palit Professor.
He worked hard for science and education in India. He died in 1944, but people still remember him with great respect.
